Education cooperation between Turkey and Bosnia Herzegovina

Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı stated that the cooperation protocol signed between Turkey and Bosnia Herzegovina paved the way for the selection of the Turkish language which is the second foreign language class in six cantons of the country,  as the second foreign language course in all cantons in many schools.

The protocol concerning education cooperation between Turkey and Bosnia Herzegovina was signed by Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı and Federation of Bosnia Herzegovina’s Minister of National Education Elvira Dilberovic.


Turkish will be second foreign language in schools in Bosnia

Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı stated that the cooperation protocol signed between Turkey and Bosnia Herzegovina paved the way for the selection of Turkish language which is second foreign language class in six cantons of the country,  as the second foreign course in all cantons in many schools.

Minister Avcı met with Federation of Bosnia Herzegovina’s Minister of National Education Elvira Dilberovic, canton ministers and school principals who have been visiting İstanbul within the framework of “My Choice is Turkish” project carried out by the Yunus Emre Institute.

Signing a cooperation protocol concerning the development of education activities between Turkey and Federation of Bosnia Herzegovina, Minister Avcı said that visit of ministers would be a blessing for both countries.   

Noting that the newly signed protocol between Turkey and Bosnia Herzegovina has taken the existing education cooperation between two countries a step further, Minister Avcı stated that the protocol has underlined the activities planned to be carried out by National Education Ministries of both countries and the Yunus Emre Institute. He went on to say, “First of these activities is increasing efforts to allowing Turkish to be taught as second foreign language in Bosnia Herzegovina. Currently, Turkish is a second foreign language in six cantons but this protocol has paved the way for the selection of Turkish language which is second as the second foreign course in all cantons in many schools. Our fellows in this country will have other opportunities if they want to learn Turkish. The Yunus Emre Institute has conducted very productive studies especially in Bosnia Herzegovina like it did in many countries in the World.”

Minister Avcı noted that protocol is important as it will allow students of both countries to learn each other’s culture and common cultural elements as it foresees student exchange between two countries as a part of the “Sister School Project”.

Minister Avcı thanked his Bosnian counterpart and the delegation of Federation of Bosnia Herzegovina for their visit and added, “Our cooperation will continue if Allah permits. Today, we have taken a very important step within this framework.” 


“A new step towards the fulfillment of cooperation objective”

Federation of Bosnia Herzegovina’s Minister of National Education Elvira Dilberovic, thanked the Turkish people for the hospitality that has been displayed during his visit.

Noting that newly signed protocol is the continuation of existing cooperation between two fellow countries, Dilberovic added that it also indicates the collaborative work between two countries as well as being the proof of their unity.

“This agreement actually brings new responsibilities especially in terms of education and culture cooperation as a part of existing relationship between two countries. Our common goal is to take a new step towards the fulfillment of cooperation objective which was initiated by the Yunus Emre Institute.

After signing the protocol, Minister Avcı gave presents to guests.

Meanwhile, Minister of National Education of the Federation of Bosnia Herzegovina gave a wooden reading desk to Minister Avcı as a present.
